Procedure

Depending on the case complexity, you could complete your treatment with a confident smile in as little as 6 months. However, you will start seeing results in a matter of weeks as long as you are adhering to your recommended clear aligner wear time. Once you have completed your treatment, your results will last indefinitely when wearing your retainers each night.

Meet with us and get a sneak peek of your new smile

We will invite you into the practice for a full smile assessment. Here, we will take pain free, precise 3D digital scans of your teeth using our in-house Trios 3Shape scanner. This will give you an instant preview of the smile you can achieve using our smile simulation software without the hassle of messy dental gagging impressions or moulds.

We will also take all relevant × rays and photographs to create a bespoke treatment plan and outline affordable monthly Payment options to suit your needs.

Invisalign check

We will present you with a personalised 3D animation video (Clincheck) which will show you week by week how your teeth are predicted to move from the start of your Invisalign treatment plan to the end and how long your teeth will take to get there.

That means the Clincheck will mark out your potential new smile before you even wear your first aligner!

Start wearing your Invisalign custom aligners

When you pick up your first custom Invisalign aligners, we will fit them on your teeth and show you how to wear them. Invisalign clear aligners are made with flexible SmartTrack material and laser-trimmed to the gum line for optimal comfort during your treatment.

We may need to place some small tags of white filling on your teeth (attachments) to help with tooth movements which we will remove at the end of treatment.

Invisalign review appointments

You will need to come and see us once every 4 to 6 weeks so that we can monitor how your teeth are moving and give you your new sets or aligners as we go along. The length of Invisalign treatment varies from patient to patient but can range from around 3-18 months. However, it is not unusual to start to see movement within a matter of weeks!

The best part is, your Invisalign Exeter aligners are virtually invisible and easy to remove, so you can eat, drink and brush your teeth as normal during treatment. But, don’t forget, you’ll need to wear your Invisalign aligners for 22 hours a day to ensure your treatment stays on track.

How long does it take and what do they cost?

With Invisalign, treatment times vary depending on the complexity of your case, but many see significant improvements in as little as six months. Ideally, you should wear them for 22 hours a day and only remove them to eat, drink, clean your teeth and floss. We also monitor progress to track gradual changes during your Invisalign treatment.

As a rule of thumb, the closer you are to wearing your aligners for 22 hours the quicker your treatment will be. Generally treatments will take between a few months to a year depending on how much movement is needed. Your digital simulation will determine how long your teeth straightening journey will take and we will discuss this with you prior to starting.

The Invisalign treatment cost varies depending on your specific needs, which your dentist will determine during your initial teeth straightening consultation.

The cost for Invisalign can be spread throughout the duration of your treatment. Ask at reception for our different payment plan options.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Invisalign treatment work?

Our Invisalign-trained doctors specialise in transforming smiles with the latest technology. Invisalign offers a discreet alternative to traditional braces, using custom-made aligners tailored just for you. Ideal for teeth straightening and correcting moderate crowding cases, Invisalign works by gently moving your teeth into the desired position, creating space and aligning your smile perfectly. Beyond just straightening, these clear, removable aligners offer the added benefit of not interfering with your teeth whitening regimen, ensuring you can maintain a beautiful smile throughout your treatment.

Once you decide to have your teeth straightened at Dental House Exeter, we will start by creating a treatment plan and using 3D computer-imaging technology can show you what your teeth could look like after the orthodontic treatment. Assuming you are happy with the proposed results we then get your Invislaign aligners (clear braces) printed. You will then wear these to gradually move your teeth into the desired position.

How long does the treatment take?

Treatment times vary and depend on your specific case as well as how often you wear your clear aligners. Ideally, you should wear the aligners for 22 hours a day and only remove them to eat, drink, clean your teeth and floss. We also monitor progress to track the gradual changes during treatment.

As a rule of thumb, the closer you are to wearing your aligners for 22 hours the quicker your treatment will be. Generally treatments will take between a few months to a year depending on how much movement is needed. You digital simulation will determine how long your teeth straightening journey will take and we will discuss this with you prior to starting.

Will I have straight teeth forever after treatment?

After you finish your treatment we will make you a retainer, which is like your aligner but stronger, to wear at night only. Provided you wear this as instructed there is no reason why your teeth should move.

How often should I change my clear aligners?

We will advise you how often you have to change your aligners and this will depend on your treatment plan but generally between 7 - 14 days.

How often do I need to come to Dental House Exeter?

Throughout your treatment we will monitor your progress regularly to check your teeth are moving as planned. Assuming your teeth straightening journey is going to plan your dentist would want to see you every 4 to 8 weeks and give you the next set of your Invisalign aligners.

How do I change my Invisalign braces?

When you start your teeth straightening treatment with us, your dentist will explain everything to you and we will practice putting your aligners in and taking them out before leaving the practice with your first set.

Can I remove my Invisalign braces for a special occasion?

Yes, they are easy to remove and can be taken off for a wedding, party or any other occasion where you don’t want to remove them in public to eat and drink. Remember, though, the less you wear them, the longer your treatment time may be.

What are the benefits of invisible braces as an orthodontic treatment?

There are many benefits to using discrete braces, such as Invisalign’s clear aligners. Firstly, they are removable, which means that, unlike fixed braces, you can take them out yourself when it suits you. Another benefit is that they are much more discrete, unlike traditional dental braces. Generally, from a social distance, most people don’t notice that you are wearing them.

Invisalign aligners are trimmed to your gum line for increased comfort and to improve their appearance so they are virtually invisible to others. Invisalign aligners can also be used as whitening trays for home whitening under supervision by one of our experienced dentists.

Do Invisalign clear aligners work for crooked teeth?

Dentists and orthodontists have used removable dental appliances for years with great success. With the latest 3D computer and customisation technology, Invisalign teeth straightening can treat several orthodontic issues, including underbites, overbites, crooked teeth and teeth spacing problems.

This flexible system makes Invisalign a popular adult brace option to straighten your teeth if you can afford invisible braces. We aim to make our treatments as affordable as possible by offering convenient payment plans.

Do Invisalign clear aligners work?

Invisalign aligners work like traditional fixed-brace teeth straightening treatments, applying constant, precise pressure to each tooth to obtain the desired tooth movement.

Patients wear the invisible aligners for 22 hours a day, and every two weeks, they change them for a new set, which has a different shape that more closely resembles the end result.

Who does Invisalign work best for?

In our experience, clear aligners work well for many types of patients.

People who have used metal braces in the past and whose teeth have reverted to their former position because they didn’t wear their retainer, those with mild to moderate crowding in both arches and patients over 16.

Are there any orthodontic issues that are unsuitable for treatment with Invisalign?

Invisalign is not suitable for patients with heavy crowding, unfortunately. Also, it should be noted that Invisalign clear aligners often take a couple of days to get used to and may affect your speech for the first few days.

Can I see the expected result?

Yes, we can show you a computerized 3D image of the treatment outcome with Invisalign so you can see what to expect when you finish treatment and what your new smile will look like.
